Held in Zug, Switzerland, the Polkadot blockchain course will be attended by a delegation of UK MPs and led by Dr Lisa Cameron. The course seeks to address the lack of blockchain knowledge among policymakers, which has been a major obstacle to implementing effective crypto regulations.Dr Cameron emphasized the importance of understanding blockchain’s real-world applications to enable informed decision-making.
With the goal of boosting Web3 knowledge among policymakers, the Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) has launched its first educational course for political figures. Dubbed Blockchain Basics, this course by Polkadot will offer civil servants and government officials the necessary knowledge to build a stable crypto policy framework.
Over the years, one of the major reasons behind the delay in the implementation of crypto policies has been the lack of industry knowledge. Polkadot seeks to address this challenge through this course launch with the goal of offering lawmakers a deeper understanding of blockchain technology.
The Polkadot Blockchain Academy will be conducting this three-day Blockchain Basics course in Zug, Switzerland from April 6 to April 8 this year. Led by Dr. Lisa Cameron, the founder of the UKUS Crypto Alliance and an MP from 2015 to 2024, a delegation of UK MPs (members of parliament) will attend this inaugural course. Dr. Lisa Cameron has been instrumental in pushing crypto growth in the United Kingdom with the goal of making it a Crypto Hub. Speaking on the development Dr. Cameron said:
“Given the prominent role that blockchain technology is poised to play in the UK’s tech sector, it is essential that policymakers are equipped with the knowledge to make informed decisions. Polkadot Blockchain Academy’s inaugural course offers a valuable opportunity for MPs to gain firsthand insights into the real-world applications of Web3. I’m pleased to lead this delegation as we engage with experts and explore how blockchain can contribute to innovation and economic growth.”
The United Kingdom lawmakers have been actively working on greater crypto regulatory measures. Earlier this month, crypto exchange Coinbased secured a license to offer full crypto services in the region. Similarly, financial services provider Uphold said that it’s committed to offering staking services to UK customers.
As the overall landscape improves, Polkadot is now tapping this opportunity by educating policymakers and turning their attention to the blockchain industry.
A delegation of British Members of Parliament is set to attend the “Blockchain Basics for Policymakers” course, which will cover critical topics such as regulation and the implementation of “guardrails” for AI and autonomous agents, highlighting the convergence of web3 technology with artificial intelligence.
Chrissy Hill, Chief Legal Officer and interim COO at Parity Technologies, will join the first institutional pilot of the course, hosted by the Polkadot Blockchain Academy.
“Policymakers play a crucial role in shaping the future of blockchain, yet have empirically lacked access to structured education on its technical and regulatory foundations. Polkadot Blockchain Academy is committed to bridging this gap, ensuring that decision-makers have the resources they need to craft practical policies that foster innovation while maintaining safeguards,” Hill stated.
